Drink & Think: REM

Screen Shot 2013-04-30 at 3.17.22 PM

So, our Kickstarter is launching this Saturday, May 4th, and we need your help. But help doesn’t come without rewards.

Kevin Roden, a popular City Councilman, is hosting a special “Drink & Think” event to kick off our Kickstarter. It will occur at 9:00 pm CST, the day of the launch. He has been hosting these events for years, and they have become a staple of Denton culture.

Drink & Think: REM on Facebook

We will be discussing – not only the film, its story, and our plans for Denton filmmaking future – but also the broad topics of dreams and deja vu’s which take great prominence in the themes of the film. Get ready to share some of your strange experiences with dreams and the common experiences we all experience that seem to supersede the natural.

We will also be showing our Kickstarter video that works as part teaser/part informational and shot completely on the A-Train and having laptops available to join in on the project as a “Backer.”

Afterwards, we will screen a wonderful film that is one of our favorites. So, besides drinks, flavored popcorn (bacon included,) and good conversation, you’ll get a movie, too. Hope you enjoy yourselves. We certainly will.

Let’s Talk – Emily Dodd (Video)

And now for a change of pace. More like a trot. Emily Dodd is featured in another in the “Let’s Talk” series, in which I have frightening hair and down-home bluegrass is played. Emily Dodd’s a favorite character of mine. I’ll discuss a bit why.

The Cast Is All Here

Well, almost. We are still searching for our Mr. Dodd and William Dodd (who might be going through some unique changes.)

But we have our main cast and are excited to introduce them to you. Meet, for the first time, Remington, Nora, Everett, Emily, Jennifer, and Mrs. Dodd.

Remington Blake
Travis Grant

Travis currently lives in L.A. He will be traveling to Denton for the role, so we look forward to introducing him to Little D and working with him as he brings great depth to the role of Remington Blake. Let’s just hope he’s prepared for all the Tex-Mex.

Nora Paisley
Sarah Byington

Sarah came up all the way from Austin for her audition. Her dedication is only matched by her raw representation of Nora. Besides her work in front of a camera, though, she has plenty of work behind it as a writer, editor, producer, and more.

Everett Blake
Trey Tucker

Trey is an actor (obviously,) web developer, and model out of the DFW area. Though we had some other ideas for the role, his audition completely won us over. We are eagerly anticipating his participation in the film and in bringing Everett to life.

Emily Dodd
Danielle Beacham

Danielle is sweet and boisterous, kind of like Emily. She is from the DFW area and is almost as excited to be on the project as we are to have her. It’s interesting to write characters then meet them in real life. With Danielle, it was a pleasure to finally meet Emily. Soon, you will, too.

Justis James Phillips

Justis is a Denton local who might be seen spouting some poems at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios late at night, or just biking around town in the sunny afternoon. What we’re excited about, though, is her exuberant portrayal of Emily’s maid of honor.

Mrs. Dodd
Leslie Harbin

Leslie is a part of the Dallas community, and an actress with great talent. And, no, we didn’t just cast her because of her red hair. It is, however, good luck to have a ginger on the cast. Glad it’s Leslie.

The Instagram Contest is Here

Here are the rules:

  1. Take an instagram of any spot in Denton.
  2. Tag it with #remlocationcontest.
  3. Post it up, and we will announce our favorite location at a special event.

Reward? You get invited to the very first read through of the script with the cast and crew, a very special event in the making of a film. We will also use the location you photographed as a location in the film. You’ll help make the film what it is!

Follow @rem_film on Instagram for more details.

Initial Auditions Are Complete

Auditions, what a couple of days! From 12 pm ’til 9 pm on Saturday, Jeremy, the team, and I watched several talented people cry, yell, and bust out their best for these parts. Then the stellar auditions yesterday at our third location. Thank you for everyone who came out this weekend. We were certainly impressed. Video auditions are coming in Tuesday, and the call backs being decided Wednesday.

In the meantime, I will be posting the last two videos of the “Let’s Talk” series and giving you some more updates on crew and the upcoming Kickstarter we will be doing. We’re going to need your help to make this movie a reality, and you won’t go unrewarded for your support. We’re cooking up a lot of cool prizes for your donations (private viewing, anyone?)

Also, keep your eyes out for an Instagram contest coming soon. Nothing better than getting rewarded for some grainy photograph you took with your phone. Follow us at @rem_film to get something a little more than numbered hearts on your Instagram profile.
